Megan Anna Rapinoe was born on July 5 1985 in Redding California. When she was in her teens she took up soccer. Then she attended her first University of Portland in Oregon together with her fraternal twin sister Rachael Rapinoe. Megan Rapinoe became a soccer star for the University of Portland, being one of the collegiate women's soccer's most prolific scorers. However an injury to her knee made her miss a portion of seasons during her junior and sophomore years. As a senior returning to full-time soccer and began every game in the year. She graduated with a bachelor's of sociology from the University of Portland. SOCCER CAREER in 2009, The Chicago Illinois Red Stars of the new Women's Professional Soccer WPS league recruited Rapinoe. They played her until the end of 2010, when the team was broke up. Rapinoe relocated into Boca Raton Florida after spending just a couple of weeks playing for Philadelphia Pennsylvania Independence. She scored two goals in only eight games, helping guide the magicJack to a third-place finish in the same season. The magicJack ended up disbanding in the latter part of 2011 and the WPS was shut down in the early months of 2012. Rapinoe was a part-time player playing for Sydney Football Club FC (Australian W-League) in 2011 before going back to the United States. She then played for the Seattle Washington Sounders Women (now the Sound FC). Rapinoe spent the 2013 soccer season in France. She joined Seattle Reign FC, now OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that was created following the dissolution of WPS. Rapinoe was one of the league's best scorers, and was later promoted to captain. She played for the U.S. Olympic soccer women team which competed during the Olympics in London England. Rapinoe played a major role on the team that won gold medals at London 2012 Olympics. Rapinoe had several assists and scored goals that helped winning matches. In 2016, she played in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The U.S. was knocked out of the quarterfinals during Rio. Her debut appearance at the FIFA Women's World Cup took place in the year 2011. In the years 2015 and 2019 her efforts have assisted players from the U.S. Women's World Cup winning team to win consecutive World Cups. The team was awarded cocaptain status in the year 2018. Rapinoe scored two goals as United States beat Australia 4-3 in the bronze medal game at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Japan had been prevented from attending their participation in the Olympics until 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
